Experiences in Secondary Education

Teachers and teacher leaders for the secondary level (grades eight through twelve) complete the bachelor of science degree in education. Teacher certification is achieved with double major in one or more disciplines including human development and family studies; family and consumer sciences; art; speech; choral, band, mariachi, or string music; dance; theatre; English language arts and reading; history; social studies; French, Spanish, or German; agriculture, food and natural resources; life science; chemistry; mathematics; and physics. Students may participate in faculty-led study abroad or Study in America trips, learn with peers in Living and Learning Communities, develop a professional community at networking events, or join student organizations for a well-rounded experience.

Revisit the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) to understand requirements and meet important deadlines. For example, you will need to apply for admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) through the Office of Educator Preparation (OEP).
Explore external scholarship opportunities such as the Fulbright Scholarship to take your expertise to unique locations abroad.
Share your knowledge as a Peer Mentor or Tutor at SLAC.
Meet with a faculty mentor to select an undergraduate research opportunity.
