The bachelor of science major in applied sociology is differentiated by the inclusion of the department-sponsored internship which is recognized for its excellence by industry experts and practitioners. Applied sociology majors follow a curriculum which covers topics including gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, mental health and addiction, aging, food and society, immigration, criminology, the family and sustainability. Students develop research and critical thinking skills needed to confront social problems, inequities, and unjust systems. In addition to the specialized internship, the student experience includes opportunities for membership in student organizations, honor societies and more.
